The Bass Project

The Bass Project is a unique series of person-centred classes targeted towards hard-to-reach and at-risk young people (ages 14 and up), using music as a tool to engage and educate, with a focus on goal setting, communication and task management skills.

The young person will receive one-to-one tuition from one of our tutors here at the music studios with all equipment provided, focusing on an instrument / discipline of their choice. This is including but not limited to:

  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Piano / keyboard
  • Drums
  • Rap / MC
  • Beat making
  • DJ
  • Songwriting
  • Singing

The aim of the project is to allow the young person to move closer to education, employment or further training at their own pace, to raise attainment and improve health & wellbeing using their passion for music as the learning medium.

The price of this project is £500 per person, delivered over the course of 10 hours at Glasgow Music Studios. The class schedule and length can be tailored to the young person’s needs.

Introduction to Electronic Music Production

Introducing the pupil to the principles and software. Start on your journey to be a Music Producer by learning the basics behind making dance music. 

The course will cover:

  • Week 1. Introduction to the basic tools used in the production of electronic music and industry standard music software – Ableton Live and Logic Pro / Keyboard workshops and course work
  • Week 2. learn the basics of editing audio files / Keyboard workshops and course work
  • Week 3. learn the basics of midi / Keyboard workshops and course work
  • Week 4. learn how to manipulate audio files using audio plug-ins / Keyboard workshops and course work
  • Week 5. learn how to create music using virtual instruments and soft synthesisers/ Keyboard workshops and course work
  • Week 6. learn how to make your own personal edit of an existing track/ final performance for qualification

Qualification is – Music: Performing with Technology at SCQF level 3. This unit involves candidates performing on one instrument and preparing a sound production or MIDI project

Sound for Video and Industry Course

Course description

This is an introductory 6-week course aimed at new starts and those already in junior-level roles in Production, Publishing, and Marketing. Over a 6 -week period, one evening per week, you will gain insight to Post-Production practices and get hands-on experience as you add sound effects, voiceover and music to animation. You will work at the studio in small groups using Protools, and be provided with an animation and script. At the end of the 6-week period, you will finish with a professionally dubbed, edited and mixed piece of work. If you are interested in Post-Production, then this course is for you. Music: Performing with Technology at SCQF level 3. This unit involves candidates performing on one instrument and preparing a sound production or MIDI project.

The course structure is as follows:

  • Week 1. Introduction and Induction to course.
  • Week 2 – Sound Effects / keyboard workshops and course work.
  • Week 3 – Music for Animation / keyboard workshops and course work.
  • Week 4 – Voiceover / keyboard workshops and course work.
  • Week 5 – Track Lay & Editing / keyboard workshops and course work.
  • Week 6 – Final Mix / practical performances

Introduction to Music Production Course

Course description

This full day course (6 hours) will include an introduction to music production with three workshop taster sessions in:

DJ Skills – industry tips and practical DJ set up, beat matching skills and building a DJ set

Sound Engineering – industry tips and practical recording, mixing and mastering skills in Pro Tools

Music Production – practical introduction to electronic music production and Logic Pro

Entry requirements

No specific entry requirements. An interest in technology and music would be beneficial.

Introduction To Audio Engineering

An introduction to sound engineering and how to record within a professional studio environment.

Course Description

The course includes 6 weekly sessions, one induction and 5 x 4 hour sessions. The course will give candidates a basic introduction to audio engineering, working digital audio work stations and recording a basic track.
Week 1. Enrollment and Introduction
Week 2. Introduction to Pro Tools DAW – finding your way round Pro Tools.
Week 3. Introduction to Pro Tools DAW – short cuts and editing techniques.
Week 4. Introduction to recording – record your own track.
Week 5. Introduction to mixing – mix your own track.
Week 6. Introduction to mastering – learn how to master your own track.
